The Havering Blogging Network was launched at Brady Primary School on Tuesday 10th June 2008. Pupils from Year 5 and Year 6, worked to develop their own blogs to be used to support writing outcomes and personalise learning. The pupils learnt how to set-up their own blogs, including the ability to add documents, images, embed videos and sound clips. They discussed Internet Safety issues and design elements. Added to this there was a clear-focus on the importance of standard written English and developing writing through the Blog. The children have also set-up discussion forums and are already discussing issues relating to their forthcoming residential trip, supporting PSCHE issues.
Brady are aiming to develop autonomous writing stations for pupils, with opportunities for pupils to log-on and add their own news stories in a journalistic style. They are also looking to use blogging to support peer-mentoring. This is all part of a drive to further-enhance pupils’ writing skills.
Headteacher Trevor Bradbury, Deputy Headteacher Mike Wade and Teacher Miss Fenwick worked with the children in the session with support from Dave Smith and Nesha Sadheura, HIAS ICT Consultants. Dave Smith commented, “Both Nesha and I were delighted by the commitment to blogging at Brady Primary, the enthusiasm of the pupils and staff was infectious. This has got the Havering Blogging Network off to a great start.”
